Transportation management technology

Optimised inbound supply and outbound distribution networks can cut cycle times and reduce inventory, as well as reduce transportation costs by effectively managing asset utilisation.

The Transportation Management System (TMS) of CEVA's Matrix™ is a key element of CEVA Logistics' supply chain execution capability. The TMS allows for all transportation routes in the supply chain to be planned at both a strategic and tactical level.

Routes can be defined in any amount of detail, including multi-modes, multi-carriers and multi-legs. The planning process also includes the ability to optimise routes based on business critical factors. Matrix™ then executes routes by setting milestones and alerts.

Leading solution
Matrix™ integrates all supply chain partners, giving each real-time visibility of inventory, order and shipment status. Real-time visibility to dynamic, executable information drives fast and flexible supply chains, leading to reduced time to value and empowered supply chain execution.

TMS Operational use
Scheduling can be used in three ways:

  • Daily scheduling
With real-time demand, it may be necessary to dynamically create and calculate new routes according to the day's orders
  • Periodic scheduling
Covering several days and where there is a need to balance the workload over a certain period, perhaps involving vehicles on multi-day trips
  • Fixed route planning
Where stable delivery patterns are required with only minor day-to-day revisions

Carrier management
Upon completion of the scheduling process, Matrix™ will electronically tender the freight to the selected carrier via an electronic data interface (EDI) message. The carrier will then provide CEVA with a tender acceptance.

The shipping location is provided with a copy of a manifest and Bill of Lading, which can be used as a hard copy document for each shipment.

Milestone tracking and exception management
Operational data related to the execution of the supply chain is fed into Matrix™, providing proactive and reactive track-and-trace capabilities.

Matrix™ continuously compares operational data to the optimised environment. Deviations from the management environment, including milestones and quantity/shipment mismatches, are identified.

Alerts are generated through a customisable interface that specifies escalation and delivery rules. These alerts are proactively shared with all concerned parties in person, or via EDI, fax and email.

Supply chain execution
All data collected by the TMS environment can be made available to all supply chain partners via secure, real-time and customised views. The CEVA's MyMatrix™ advanced portal environment enables such visibility.
